Peak by Roland Smith

BOOK REVIEW  by Mrs. Miller

Peak is a fourteen year old boy who lives among the hub-bub of New York city.  His parents, who are now split up, were both avid climbers which allowed Peak to grow up learning how to climb.  After he pulled a "climbing stunt" on one of the skyscrapers of the city, the only way he could avoid the juvenile detention center that the judge wanted to send him to, was to take off with his dad and go live in Tibet-- many, many miles away.

Little did Peak know, his father, a very well know mountain climbing guide, had plans for Peak to be the youngest person to the top of Mt. Everest.

Wow, talk about action, adventure, and a whole lotta struggles!  This book draws you in and puts you on the mountain, learning about the obstacles that a climber has to overcome.  The author also puts you in Peak's shoes as he learns to climb the most difficult mountain in the world while at the same time trying to learn to understand his father-- that disappeared from his life many years ago.  Peak learns first hand about priorities in life!

This book is one of the best books that I have read this year.  I COULD NOT put it down!  I think that both boys and girls would enjoy this book.  Through the story it also teaches you about mountain climbing and how hard it would be!  This book is a "must read"!

That seems like a very intersting book! I like how you described it and I want to read it. I love books in that time period.

i have read that book and i liked it, which is a first because i don't like historical fiction books. Although the slave talk is kind of hard to understand. i have finally figured out why Eulinda is standing in the graves but i can't tell.

i think that i woud really like numbering all the bones because it sounds like it has alot of adventure, and i love books that take time during the slaves.
