Missing by Catherine MacPhail
BOOK REVIEW by Mrs. Miller
Maxine has experienced something that many people cannot even imagine. Her brother, Derek, is missing and she does not know what has happened to him. All she knows is that as long as her parents are worrying and thinking about Derek, she is not getting any attention. In fact, she almost believes that maybe deep down they wish it was her instead of Derek. Maxine faces several choices and challenges in this story.
This is an emotional story that quickly turns into a mystery. If you like stories that keep you guessing, then investigate this one. Caution: content is very sensitive and the setting is a town in England-- so there are words, phrases, and terms that you may be unfamiliar with.
This book also takes a look into what it is like to be bullied and just how far a person may go to avoid being tormented. If you choose to read this book, I would like to hear your responses to Maxine's feelings and actions.
