I just finished reading a book called The Mailbox  by Audrey Shafer.  The main character is a boy named Gabe who had been moving from place to place but has recently been living with his old uncle, Vernon Culligan.  But, Gabe actually likes living with Uncle Vernon because it is the most stable living situation that he has had in a long time-- rather than foster homes.

   Well, Gabe comes home from school one day to find Uncle Vernon dead on the floor but he doesn't know what to do because it could mean that he would have to go back to another foster home.  So, Gabe doesn't tell anyone!  He just goes about his business like nothing happened.  He even goes to school the next day and doesn't say a word.  But...the strangest thing has happened.  He came home from school and Uncle Vernon's body was gone and there was a mysterious note in the mailbox that said "I have a secret.  Don't be afraid."   Then, it gets even wilder than that.  The next day, he comes home from school and he has a brand new pet, a dog all his own named Guppy.  Just how long can Gabe keep his secret?  Read   The Mailbox and find out!
